Hebrew School

Our Hebrew school is called the Children’s Learning Center (CLC). The CLC is geared specifically for school-age children to learn about our Jewish heritage and customs through the study of Hebrew, Torah, prayers, songs and experiential activities, and includes bar/bat mitzvah instruction. In addition to our twice-monthly preschool class for children ages 2 and up (see below), we offer weekly sessions for children in grades 1-7. These classes are small enough for individual attention, yet large enough for children to develop a sense of community with their Jewish peers. Sessions are on Sundays from 9:15 AM to 12:30 PM, with a supplemental weeknight class for older students. There is an additional fee for this class.

Non-members are welcome to enroll their children as students in the religious school for one year. Membership in Reconstructionist Temple Beth Israel is required after the first year of enrollment.

NEW in 2010: Intergenerational Gan Katan preschool program for children ages 5 and under and their families! Please call ext. 4 for details and enrollment.

TIKKUN OLAM PROJECT (Healing The World)

“Let justice well up as waters, righteousness as a mighty stream”
A very important part of our curriculum is to nurture a sense of social awareness in our children. All students are required to complete an age-appropriate project each year that demonstrates a focus on helping the world around them. The nature of the project is decided by the students with the help of their parents. Each student gives a presentation to their class on their project to explain what they did and what they learned.

Please contact us at (201) 845-7550, ext. 4 if you would like more information about the RTBI Children’s Learning Center.

Very often these intergenerational events take place during CLC sessions, such as our Tu b’Shevat seder or sukkah decorating.
